Adrianne Furniss

Benton Institute for Broadband & Society
Executive Director
Evanston, IL
Adrianne is Executive Director, Board Member, and Trustee of the Benton Foundation, a private operating foundation with offices in Evanston, IL.

Benton believes that communications policy – rooted in the values of access, equity, and diversity – has the power to deliver new opportunities, strengthen communities, and enliven democracy. Our goal is to bring open, affordable, high-capacity broadband to all people in the US.

Benton makes knowledge and analysis accessible to include more people in communications policymaking:
•Benton curates and distributes the only free, reliable, and non-partisan daily digest of media and communications news.
•Benton connects stakeholders through information sharing and analysis to frame and promote conversation and a more inclusive debate around communications policy.
•Benton supports legal and policy experts who preserve and strengthen the public benefits of America’s communications environment, who can nourish and protect democratic values, and who can communicate to the public why this all matters.

Currently, Adrianne serves on the Board of Advisors for the Coalition for Local Internet Choice (CLIC), which represents a wide range of public and private interests who support the authority of local communities to make the broadband Internet choices that are essential for economic competitiveness, democratic discourse, and quality of life in the 21st century.

She also is on the Board of Directors of PC’s for People, a nonprofit in St. Paul, Minnesota. PCs for People strives to bridge the digital divide by providing affordable personal computers, computer repairs, internet service, and education to people with limited technological experience due to social, physical, or economic circumstances.
